Taking on the Ultimate Challenge: Running 100 Miles to Make Dreams Come True for Children’s Charity

Luke Preparing to run 100 miles for Dreams Come True

I'm Running 100 Miles to Make Dreams Come True For The Children That Need It Most. 👇

I wanted to share something close to my heart as I gear up for one of the biggest challenges of my life—running the Robin Hood 100 ultramarathon. This isn’t just any race. It’s 100 miles of relentless running, pushing myself beyond my limits. But I’m not doing it for me. I’m doing it for Dreams Come True, an amazing charity that’s dedicated to bringing life-changing experiences to children with disabilities, serious illnesses, or life-limiting conditions.

Why This Challenge Means So Much

Some of you may remember that I took on this same ultramarathon challenge back in 2022. I pushed myself to the point of exhaustion, running 74 miles in 22 hours. My body completely gave up on me. I had severe blisters, extreme fatigue, and every muscle in my body was screaming at me to stop. And eventually, I had no choice but to listen. I was 26 miles short of my goal. To say I was disappointed is an understatement.

But, looking back, that experience taught me a lot about myself. I gave everything I had and stopped only when it was physically impossible to continue. At that moment, I made a commitment to myself: I wouldn’t leave the race wondering if I could have done more. I gave it my all, and that’s what matters.

Round Two: A Second Chance at Running 100 Miles to Make Dreams Come True

This year, I’m back. More determined, more focused, and more passionate than ever. I’m ready to take on the full 100 miles—not just for the personal achievement, but for the cause I deeply believe in.

Running 100 miles is no small feat. It’s going to take every ounce of my physical endurance, mental toughness, and sheer willpower. But the children that Dreams Come True supports face challenges far bigger than mine every single day. Their resilience inspires me, and I want to give back in a way that makes a lasting impact.

Every step I take during this race will be in honor of these incredible children—kids who face hardships that many of us can’t even imagine. This charity makes dreams come true for them, offering hope, joy, and unforgettable memories during some of their toughest times.

Why Dreams Come True?

Dreams Come True is special. It’s the only charity in the UK that focuses specifically on helping children in the most deprived areas, who are living with severe illnesses or disabilities. They do incredible work—from giving a child with cerebral palsy a specially adapted trike to providing tablets that help autistic teenagers develop communication skills. Each dream brings moments of magic, and I’ve seen firsthand how these moments change lives.

That’s why this race means more to me than just crossing the finish line. It’s about raising awareness and funds for these kids, ensuring they get the magical experiences they deserve.

The Road to Resilience

My journey hasn’t just been about running. It’s a reflection of the twists and turns life throws at us. Some of you know my story—playing football at Wembley when I was 15, dreaming of a long career in professional sports. But that dream ended sooner than I expected. My journey transitioned from professional footballer to working in an animal food factory, and later to becoming a motivational speaker and coach.

Life has taught me that no matter how many times you fall, it’s about how many times you get back up. That’s why I do what I do now—helping others realise their potential, no matter the setbacks they face.

This ultramarathon is just another way to show that with determination and persistence, we can all achieve great things. And I want to show my children, and everyone watching, that no matter how tough things get, you can push through.

How You Can Help

I’m not just running 100 miles for personal growth. I’m running to raise as much as I can for Dreams Come True. My goal is to make sure more children get the chance to have life-changing experiences that give them hope and joy, no matter their circumstances.

I’d be incredibly grateful for any support you can offer, whether that’s sharing my journey, spreading the word, or contributing to the fundraiser. Together, we can bring dreams to life for children who need it most.

Let’s Make Every Mile Count

This isn’t just a race. It’s a symbol of perseverance, resilience, and the power of community. Every mile I run is a step toward making more dreams come true for children who deserve a bit of magic in their lives.

Thank you for your kindness, generosity, and belief in this mission. Together, we can achieve something truly special.

Race Date: Robin Hood Ultramarathon, 21st September 2024

Let’s do this—one step at a time.
